The World Bank-supported KYEOP has created 125,000 direct jobs and 30,000 indirect jobs, reaching more than 145,000 young Kenyans. The program increased employment rates from 70% to 85%, with beneficiaries earning 50% higher earnings compared to non-participants[reference:0]. KYEOP impact evaluations showed that project beneficiaries achieved higher business start-up rates (65%), greater business survival rates (85%), higher sales (91%), and higher profits (90%)[reference:1].

The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project has engaged 122,000 young entrepreneurs in a nationwide mentorship programme with 4,879 mentors deployed across all 1,450 wards in Kenya[reference:2]. The programme has achieved near gender parity with women accounting for 51% of beneficiaries[reference:3]. Notably, 98% of mentored beneficiaries have already launched their businesses, with 65% identified as first-time entrepreneurs[reference:4]. Over 3,600 trainers and 5,500 mentors have been engaged to support the NYOTA entrepreneurs[reference:5].

A Generation Kenya Mentorship Impact Study (2026) revealed that 63.6% of Digital Customer Service mentees who exceeded workplace expectations directly attributed their success to mentorship[reference:6]. The study found that mentorship contributes to stronger workplace integration, improved confidence, enhanced resilience, and higher levels of retention[reference:7]. Teleperformance Kenya has supported the programme since 2022, contributing 318 employee mentors who have guided young professionals transitioning into employment[reference:8].

The Jiinue Growth Program (JGP), funded by the Mastercard Foundation, delivered pre-lending technical assistance to over 60,000 MSMEs, with 65% women-led[reference:9]. The program supported more than 18,000 MSMEs through two mentorship sessions, of which 84% (15,000+) were youth-led and 61% (11,000+) were young women-owned[reference:10]. The program operated across all 47 counties in Kenya[reference:11].

The Strengthening Rural Youth Development through Enterprise (STRYDE) program, a partnership between TechnoServe and the Mastercard Foundation, has reached more than 68,000 youth across East Africa, with the first phase equipping 15,000 rural youth in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda with skills, aftercare, and mentoring[reference:12]. Youth participating in the program increased their income by an average of 84%, with participants' average assets increasing by 101% and savings by 89%[reference:13]. The share of youth not participating in any income-generating activity fell from 34% before the program to 12% after graduation[reference:14]. STRYDE achieved equal participation by women and men, with more than 90% of participants graduating the program[reference:15].

The Women in Digital Business (WIDB) initiative has reached over 30,000 women entrepreneurs, with one-third earning certification and gaining access to advanced coaching and mentorship[reference:16]. The KNCCI Skills 4 Women & Youth program empowered 478 women- and youth-led SMEs, surpassing the original participation goal by over six times[reference:17]. Mentorship has also strengthened entrepreneurs' skills in clean energy, with 298 employees paid by women entrepreneurs supported by the program[reference:18].

An assessment of the STEM-Kenya Mentorship Program concluded that participating in the STEM mentorship program broadened participants' scope of employment opportunities[reference:19]. The program addresses the gender gap in the job market, where female participation is 29.5% compared to males at 36%[reference:20], demonstrating the critical role of targeted mentoring in improving women's career outcomes.

The So They Can program has provided business skills training to 1,595 women in Nakuru and Baringo, demonstrating how women's mentorship, whether informal or formal, is a powerful force for economic empowerment in rural Kenyan villages[reference:21]. Women's mentorship fosters shared knowledge, resources, and opportunities that uplift entire communities[reference:22].

As highlighted at the Generation Kenya Mentorship Impact Study, mentorship is increasingly recognized as a strategic business approach that develops talent, strengthens workplace culture, and enhances organizational performance[reference:23]. Employers from the textile and apparel sector, including Ashton Apparel EPZ and Mega EPZ, validated that mentorship strengthens employee retention, improves workplace efficiency, accelerates onboarding, and supports long-term career progression for young workers[reference:24]. The study positions mentorship as a proven and scalable approach for strengthening workforce transition, retention, and career growth across industries[reference:25].
